block party ideas things to do at block party block party
There are many things to do at a block party. Most of the time you are going to have a lot of guest and you are going to want to have activities for all ages especially the kids. In my years of block party hosting, I have grown my party from just a cooler and food to having multiple block party activities. The most important activities that I have found is catering to all the kids. The adults will want to relax so keeping the kids busy is the key. Here is a list of block party ideas that I find the kids enjoy the most. (All of these items can be found in our block party store most with free shipping options).
Face Painting, Water Balloons, Water Guns, Sand Art, Inflatable Slides and Moon Walks, Karaoke, Sidewalk Chalk, Lawn Darts, Ring Toss, Stomp Rockets, Frisbee, Bubbles, Glow in the Dark items, and Spin Art.
Block Party activities are endless and above is
just a handful of activities that are affordable and
easy to obtain.
The next thing you will need to think about is hired
activities such as DJ's, Pony Rides, Magicians, Clowns,
Inflatable ride companies (which will usually have options for popcorn machines, snow cones, cotton candy, etc).
You can go over the top or keep to a small budget. Our Block Party store has many popcorn, snow making, and cotton candy machines as well as affordable inflatable rides, pools, and slides. If you are going to have a block party year after year and pay $500 each year to rent these items, you can have the block chip in a buy it outright. You save within a year or two by not renting and own it.
Food is another important block party activity. You will want to have a BBQ that can handle a large quantity of food and some sternos to keep the food warm. I invested in a great propane smoker that cooks so good, my guest can't wait to come over and eat. (Visit our block party store to look at all the great smokers and BBQ's). You can also search for coupons on the site.
In Recent years we have expanded the block party to have events the whole block participates in. We hold a kids bike parade. We decorate the houses. If you live in an area with nice warm weather year round, you can have a Halloween block party. For the teens and adults our wing and pie eating competition is a huge success.
When it comes to budgeting and expenses, we hold a 50/50 raffle each year at the block party. Sell tickets for $1 and at the end of the block party the winner gets half the pot and the block keeps half to help pay for the event. You can get rolls of tickets in our store.
